Working on AKSIK opened my eyes to the effects of climate change on small communities that lead a subsistence lifestyle. For me, Shaktoolik and Savoonga serve as microcosms for the threat that climate change effects poses to culture and tradition across the world, as well as the capacity for humans to be resilient and "defend" their home and tradition.
